  • NBC Direct – Free TV shows

Here’s a random fact for you, NBC is a division of General Electrics, who knew? Okay, I’m sure a lot of you, but I just found this out 37 seconds ago.

You read the news, right? You know all about the NBC vs. Apple spat that ended in NBC planning to offer their videos through Amazon.com (ick). Well, it seems in a new development NBC will be launching its own free download service, called NBC Direct, for viewers to download their shows for free. The downloads will feature a TV like experience, complete with commercials that cannot be skipped.

The service, which is set to go public in November will allow users to subscribe to NBC programs and have them delivered to their computers automatically after the program airs, however the file will expire one week after the show first airs. To add further insult to injury, NBC Direct will only be available to Windows users. Take that Apple!

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t this stem from NBC waiting to charge users more per download? And now they’ll be offering them for free? Umm, okay? I realize they will probably make a bit of money off the built in commercials, but can that really compare to the money they made through their offerings on iTunes?

  • Bioshock

I really didn’t know much about Bioshock when it came out. I’d seen the commercial and glanced at a couple of previews, but that was pretty much it (I knew so little about the game, I thought you played as the dude on the front cover, with the auger hand). I downloaded and played the demo on Xbox Live and was intrigued. Then, after I read a couple of reviews that gave it a 9.9 and a perfect 10, I figured I needed to give it a try. After playing it for awhile, I have 2 words to say “Holy crap!”

I figured I’d take a moment to post a blurb about some the happenings of the week.

    ‘Idol’ Chatter

Apparently the MTV Video Music Awards took place last Sunday. Because I’m not comatose, I know that Britney Spears performed at these awards and had the ‘show of a lifetime’… but in the bad way. I guess those crazy judges over on American Idol feel that they can help out this fallen star and get her career back on track. Simon Cowell was quoted as saying “We have decided we can bring Britney back. We are serious. We plan to buy her underpants, get her bigger shorts to perform in and get her away from her stupid friends.” Maybe I’m the only one that doesn’t care about Britney or any of those other crazy people on American Idol, but would somebody please tell Simon Cowell to buy shirts that fit him before he ever buys underwear or any other type of clothing for someone else.
