  • iMac Refresh Due Next Week?

Geeksugar is reporting that Apple is set to unveil an update to their iMac lineup as early as next week, and other industry insiders seem to agree. The ever modest folks over at Geeksugar were very quick to point out that they did correctly predict the last MacBook/MacBook Pro refresh, so this has to be legit

Details of what the update includes are merely speculaive at this point, but it would seem logically that they would include the new Penryn processors, as well as larger hard drives.

Guess we’ll find out for sure Tuesday.

  • Shame On Facebook

After posting on how to run Facebook Chat from your Firefox sidebar, I got to thinking about the other potential usages of popout.php. More specifically, using it as a browser based chat client on the iPhone. Sadly though, Facebook has neglected to allow iPhone/iPod touch users the ability to run Facebook Chat from Mobile Safari. Lame!

Anyhow, with my limited programming skills I’m toying with a way around this, but don’t expect any miracles since I don’t really plan on using Facebook Chat all that often.

  • AT&T Looking to Offer $100 Femtocells?

Sweet mother, AT&T might be looking to suck just a little bit less by offering femtocells to end users for as little as $100. As a reluctant AT&T user I would be willing to drop the extra $100 to improve my cell reception around the house.

According to a report floating around the internet, AT&T has plans to move up to 7 million femtocells acquired from UK-based firm ip.access. Of course, as the story inevitably goes, nobody is admitting to anything.

Couple the rollout of femtocells with AT&T taking over wireless hot spots at all Starbucks locations (formerly managed by T-Mobile) and suddenly AT&T has a nice little framework for a fraction of the normal deployment costs.

  • Run Facebook Chat in the Sidebar [Firefox]

I could care less, but Facebook launched their GoogleTalk clone chat utility the other day. And apparently, just like GoogleTalk you can run it in the sidebar in Firefox. Woot.

The upside to this is now you can chat with all your friends without having to open up Facebook, and you’ll be free to browse other websites while chatting.

To add the Facebook chat to your Firefox sidebar, press Ctrl+Shift+B to bring up the Bookmarks Organizer.

Go to Organize -> New Bookmark and type the following address: http://www.facebook.com/presence/popout.php

Also mark the box that says “Load this bookmark in the sidebar”.

  • Creating a Theme for the iPhone

Reader Ed sent me a message on Facebook asking how to go about creating a theme for the iPod touch/iPhone. Here’s a quick tutorial.

First, an overview of what images you’ll need to create.
    Images Required
As you can see listed above, you’ll need to create Dock.png, StatusBar.png and Wallpaper.png. As well as an Icons folder. It should be noted that none of these are absolutely required, you can easily make a theme without a Wallpaper.png, etc.

Create a folder named after your theme, then store the files listed above in said folder.

    More details after the jump.
