  • Web Hosting

I run a couple different websites off the same server and have had a few problems here and there, but lately I’ve been having nothing but problems. Recently we were moved to a new server. In that move one of my domains stopped functioning altogether and this domain started working intermittently, then all the sudden I was getting 403 Forbidden errors every time I tried to access a page. Twelve long hours later my websites are finally all in working order (for now).

Another website I run (which will remain unnamed) lost a good chuck of its MySQL database in the move. My host didn’t have a backup of everything (even though they were in the middle of a transfer between servers), thankfully I made a backup the day of the move.

So I’m shopping around for a new web hosts, any one have any recommendations?

  • Off-Topic: Career Choices

When I graduated high school, I wanted to be a journalist. I wanted to travel, write engaging articles to enthrall the public, the whole deal. You might even say I had a passion for writing.

A couple years later I had a couple jobs, bills to pay, and very little desire to write, let alone be a journalist. What changed? I think it was me. When I wrote in high school it was a tool to help me organize my thoughts and make decisions. As I got older those decisions started becoming easier to make on a day to day basis (practice makes perfect), and writing wasn’t something I needed anymore.

Fast forward to the present. Now that I’ve been writing on a consistent basis for our lovely conglomeration of a blog, the though of “hey, I could actually do this with my life” started creeping back in. Then I had a conversation with my dad, my girlfriend, and one of my best friends, and they all–directly and indirectly–encouraged me to try journalism again. All in the same night nonetheless.

I figure, why not? When I started taking classes off and on (three years ago) I was aiming for a Journalism degree. So right now I have the classes I need to do it, I only need to finish of a couple more pre-reqs and I’ll be good to go. Did I mention that with the career change I can put Hijinks Inc on my resume? Yeah baby, yeah.

  • Where is the innovation?

I have mad love and respect for AMD, the first computer I ever built was AMD powered, and rocked the K7. Let’s face it, I wouldn’t have been able to afford to build my own computer at age 14 if it weren’t for AMD, they undercut Intel right and left in pricing, they were the processors for the little guy. But I have to stop and ask them, what happened? Sure, your prices are still lower… but so are your clock speeds, so are your benchmark scores!

You’re just finally getting around to releasing a quad core processor, umm… hello? Intel did that eons ago. I don’t mean to rag on you guys, but seriously, you’re letting me down. Buying ATI was a smooth move, but in the long term it only made you a slightly more annoying thorn in Intel’s side. Blogging Stocks thinks Intel is prepping to crush you like a steroid crazed football player crushes his Mt. Dew can after winning the big game. Your performance lacking and battery draining mobile chip sets still make me cry, the desktop platform looks like you’re only hope, don’t let me down.

And then you went and dumped how much in to Transmeta? 7.5 mil? And you’re hoping to get what out of this? Bottom line, I like you AMD, but there’s a reason why I own Intel stock.

  • Out of Stock

After spending yesterday afternoon digging spare change out of miscellaneous furniture, I went to Best Buy to buy myself a shiny new iPod touch. Yay! Only not yay… They were sold out, they’d even sold their display model… or it broke on account of people drooling on it and they took it down. Oh, the pain!

Maybe it’s a sign that I shouldn’t buy one, what with those janky screens and some iPods shipping without OS X installed. But after finally deciding to buy one, it hurts that they were sold out. Honestly, I was surprised that they stayed in stock as long as they did, I’d been to Best Buy a few days earlier and they had quite a few in stock at that time.

What about you? Are you planning on getting one? Are the issues the iPod touch having enough to keep you from buying it, or are you just holding out for the Zune 2?

  • One man’s guide to becoming the ultimate… housewife? Day 2 (sorta)

Alright, when I last updated you guys, I was finishing out my last week after having quit my job. They let me go Wednesday after we finished the biggest job we had in production and I took the rest of the day to celebrate. I gotta tell you, it feels really good to quit your job, you should try it sometime! (I guess now is about the time I should tell you that Hijinks Inc. does not take any responsibility for any advice you take from this blog)
