    iTunes album artwork

Just a quick post to shed some light on an issue some may be having with their iTunes album artwork.  The last time I moved my entire iTunes library from one computer to another, I noticed some of my artwork didn’t show up.  On doing some research, it seems that ever since iTunes 7, it actually stores the artwork in a separate library file, and doesn’t attach it to the actual music files themselves.  While there are some programs like TuneUp that our very own Dave Sack reviewed that will go through your entire collection and change that, an easy and free way to make sure the artwork is attached to any new song you import or purchase is this:

1 – Right-click on the track, and click Get Info

2 – Click on the Art tab on the far right

3 – Click on the artwork once and Control-C to copy (Command-C on Mac)

4 – Press Delete, which will erase the artwork you see

5 – Press Control-V (Command-V) and paste the copied art back in

    6 – Press OK

This painfully simple process will actually attach the artwork to the file tag so the artwork will now travel with the file where ever it may go.

Also, if you’d like to embed artwork for an entire album, just select all of the tracks, right-click and go to ‘Get Info’, then paste the artwork into the ‘Artwork’ box… your artwork will be applied to all of the tracks.

  • Hijinks Reviews: Batman Arkham Asylum

Hello again boys and girls. I realize Batman: Arkham Asylum isn’t the latest and greatest video game by any means, however, it is a solid game that merits involvement in our line of game reviews. It’s no coincidence that it’s also one of the games I played with my recent game pass from Blockbuster.

B:AA (short for Batman: Arkham Asylum, I like to simplify things) is an action-adventure stealth game that gets quite a bit more right than wrong. Many of the other Batman games that have come out over the years took a lot of liberties with their story lines. This one strictly adheres to the comic book mythology. They even went so far as to have long-time Batman scribe Paul Dini write the story. That’s a big point in favor of the game. The second big thing they got right with this game is the voice acting. They went out and got the actors from the DC Animated Universe, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill to voice Batman and Joker, respectively. Many hardcore Batman aficionados consider these two to be the best representations of what these characters should sound like, in an animated universe anyway. The third biggest achievement? No Robin!! Just how Batman should be!! (more…)

  • HP Confirms webOS Tablet?

Engadget is reporting that HP has confirmed, at least to its employees, that it will in fact ship a webOS tablet in Q1 2011. Color me excited.

I know this rumor has been floating around since the day HP bought Palm, but this one doesn’t just say they’ll be shipping a “webOS version of Slate”, which in my mind lends a modicum of credibility to it. Starting from square one with the hardware to run webOS makes a lot more since than trying to force a new OS on to existing hardware, especially hardware that has yet to see the light of day.

Really I just want to see a new device running webOS, one hopefully better designed than the Pre. Come on HP, I need some proof that webOS is alive and kicking and not just destined to be used on your fancy new printers.

  • Android ROMs: Source or Tweaked Build?

Android ROMs: Source or Tweaked Build?

If you’ve got a rooted Android device, there may be several full ROM builds available for your device.  These ROMs are full system builds of Android with various customizations that often go above and beyond the stock Android experience.

ROMs are generally built for one or more specific purposes.  Some ROMs (the famous CyanogenMod for example), are built with many extra features and options that go way above and beyond the base Android options.  Other ROMs are streamlined for speed, with overclocked kernels and many memory tweaks to optimize the device.

Regardless of the ROM’s purpose, there are only two ways to build a ROM, from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) source code, or by customizing an existing build of the OS for the device.  Read more about them after the break.

  • Quick Tip: Use AutoHotKey To Disable Your Touch Pad While Typing

Call it laziness, call it fat hands, call it bad posture, call it whatever you want. I’ve found on my latest laptop that the touch pad is either placed in an inconvenient spot, or perhaps it’s just more sensitive than my last laptop. Whatever the case, I’ve run into the trouble of the mouse jumping while I’m in the middle of typing; it’s particularly frustrating whilst blogging. Through the magic of AutoHotKey you can make the problem disappear!

I was browsing for possible fixes to this problem and stumbled across an old article on Lifehacker with this solution. I’ve now been using it for a couple weeks and it’s completely solved my problem. Before I get started with the quick how to, be sure to check your synaptics driver, it may have an option to disable the cursor while you type already built in. Go check real quick and then join me after the jump for the details. (more…)
