iPod touch Jailbreak [ 1.1.3 ]

In order to jailbreak 1.1.3 you need a jailbroken iPod touch running 1.1.2, a wireless network, and some free time.

Files you may need for this process:
[ iPod touch 1.1.1 firmware ]
[ iPod touch 1.1.2 firmware ]

Hit the detailed instructions after the jump.

The Downgrade:
Brief recap, if you’re starting out with a new iPod touch that is currently at 1.1.2 and has not been jailbroke yet or 1.1.3, you will need to downgrade to 1.1.1 in order to jailbreak it, then re-upgrade it to 1.1.2. If you’re already running a jailbroken 1.1.1 iPod skip ahead to Step 3.

Step 1:
Download the 1.1.1 restore file from Apple, then in iTunes Option click (Shift click on Windows) the ‘Check for Update’ button and then selecting the 1.1.1 restore file you just downloaded. Now just wait for it to finish restoring your iPod/iPhone.

Step 2:
Jailbreak it by going to http://jailbreakme.com in Mobile Safari.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit “Install AppSnapp” then sit back and wait (it shouldn’t take too long)

Update: AppSnapp is now supposed to install the Oktoprep software automatically, but I’ve heard reports that it doesn’t, so you may or may not have to complete step 3.

Step 3:
Open Installer.app and scroll down to the Tweaks (1.1.1) folder, open it and select Oktoprep from the list. Once installed, exit Installer.app and connect your iPod to your computer.

Note: If you don’t see a Tweaks 1.1.1 folder, you’ll need to install the Community Sources. You can do this by tapping the Sources folder in Installer and then hitting Community Sources and Install.

Step 4:
Using iTunes install the 1.1.2 update. You may have to download it from Apple’s website and Option click (Shift click for Windows) the ‘Check for Update’ button again, this time selecting the 1.1.2 file. Wait for it to update your iPod.

Step 5:
Now download and run the TouchFree app from Conceited Software. Make sure and close iTunes prior to running TouchFree.
Mac users click on ‘jailbreak.jar’ to run, Windows users click on windows.bat

Follow the on-screen prompts.

If you get an error informing you that iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode, try using Independence to restart it normally.

The Upgrade

Now you’re almost ready to upgrade to 1.1.3!

Step 1:
Open Installer.app and under the System category download and install the BSD subsystem (version 2.0 as of the time I wrote this).

Step 2:
Tip: Make sure your Auto-Lock feature is set to never (Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock : Hit Never), as this next step will take around 20 minutes, depending on your connection speed.

Now head over to the Systems category and install the Official 1.1.3 Upgrader, this application will download and install the software over your wireless network. Follow the on-screen prompts and enjoy!

Updated 2-2-2008: Want those extra iPod touch apps without dropping $19.99? Open up Installer.app, hit Sources, tap the Edit button, then tap Add, now type the following URL (no quotes): “spaziocellulare.com/ispazio.xml”, hit OK.

After the Sources refresh, hit Install, then scroll down to the iSpazio 1.1.3 Tools category and install the 1.1.3 iPod Full Features package. This will add Maps, Mail, Weather, Stocks and Notes, as well as the ability to create webclips and rearrange the icons on the home screen.
