Quick, what does Bo Pelini, Kevin Garnett, Matt Serra, the NFL draft, and the NHL playoffs all have in common? They are all topics in my latest Quick Hits! (OK, so it’s my first Quick Hits, not latest… p’sh!) See what I have to say about all of them after the jump.
This is national news now, so I can post about it without feeling like a homer. Tickets to the Nebraska Cornhusker spring football game are selling for $95 a pop. Husker Nation is buzzing about Bo Pelini, the return of the Blackshirts, and all that is Tom Osborne. But what is a realistic expectation for this upcoming season? Probably something around .500. I think the Huskers are making steps in the right direction (huge steps) but expectations need to be tempered a bit.
I’ve been a UFC fan for awhile now, long enough that I actually recognize most of the fighters, and there’s a pretty big one this weekend. However, I find myself stuck in the middle. I really don’t like either fighter. It’s Matt Serra vs. George St. Pierre for the welterweight championship. Serra beat St. Pierre last year in what many are calling the biggest upset in MMA history. Both of these guys hate each other, it should be fun!
The NBA season ends tonight, and if the Denver Nuggets win, all 8 teams that qualified for the playoffs in the Western Conference will have at least 50 wins. That’s an incredible figure considering that only 3 of the 8 teams that qualified for the Easter Conference playoffs have 50 or more wins. The Western conference has increased it’s dominance over the East, but I still like Boston’s chances to win the championship this year. I became a Celtics fan the minute they acquired Kevin Garnett this offseason.
The NFL draft is next weekend. If you know me at all, you know that this is a big event that I’ve been anticipating ever since the clock turned to 0:00 in the Super Bowl. There’s not alot of elite talent this year, but I’ll still be watching anyway.
And lastly, a strange thing happened to me this week. I actually found myself interested in the NHL playoffs. I never saw that one coming! Before you know it, I’ll probably be in front of my TV, watching a game! Egads!
