I am Iron Man. Those could be the lyrics of a certain Black Sabbath song, or maybe a little quip from Tony Stark. Or maybe both. You’ll have to go see the movie to find out for sure I guess.
And that’s exactly what I did last night. In a bit of a hasty decision, I ended up going to see the movie and honestly, had mixed expectations. It looked like it could be good, but I wasn’t expecting TOO much (if you’ve ever heard me talk about the upcoming Dark Knight movie, you know I’ll probably be disappointed by the movie because the expectations are simply through the roof). Comic Book movies are usually good to go into with lower expectations, because as good as some of them have been, some have been downright painful.
But which did Iron Man end up being? Find out after the jump
Iron Man is about a weapons mogul named Tony Stark. You can read about him on his wiki page here. The movie jumps right into the storyline, wasting absolutely none of your precious time. Stark is being beaten and bruised, almost right from the get-go. You get a quick recap of what brought us here, and then it moves on to Stark deciding to create, what will eventually become, yeah, you guessed it, Iron Man.
The movie does a pretty good job of mixing in comedy, which is important for most comic books. Although I never read any of the comics growing up, I think they did a good job of telling the story as well. I didn’t feel like I was out of the loop or anything, so that was nice. I especially enjoyed his interactions with his various robots and computers around the house.
As for the rumors about “the Man” Sam Jackson showing up for a brief role as Nick Fury, unless I just missed it… it didn’t happen. But that wasn’t nearly enough to dampen my enthusiasm walking out of the theater at the end of the show, and I’d be happy to give this fun movie a 10 out of 10.
EDIT: I retract my statement about Sam Jackson not showing up. The group I went with left too soon and apparently there is a quick clip at the end of the credits (I just KNEW there would be… I should’ve stayed). Oh well, now you know not to make the same mistake I did.
