Here’s a little peak at the entertainment world now that Comic-Con has passed.
Shark Week starts tomorrow night on Discovery. My favorite quote about Shark Week is Tracy Morgan’s from 30 Rock when his character, Tracy Jordan, is teaching Kenneth how to live life to the fullest. “You need to live every week like it’s Shark Week.” There’s something about that that is so simple and yet, so true.
I guess Ellen Degeneres quit American Idol… if you care about that sort of thing. I hope that show dies a painful death, soon.
Jimmy Fallon, who I’d like to point out is doing a terrific job hosting the Late Night show, is being accused of sexual discrimination by a man. Yeah, you read that right. A dude. Although, if you read the article, the guy sounds like an idiot… he’s just bitter that he got canned.
Home Media Magazine is reporting that you’ll soon be able to rent Blu-ray for an additional $0.50 from Redbox. Seems like a good idea to me, now I just need to save up for that PS3 so that I can have a Blu-ray player of my own!
A quick Entry Level Geek note, Batman: Under the Red Hood came out this week on DVD. The movie is based on the Batman storylines “Under the Hood” and “A Death in the Family“, two highly recommended story arcs in the Batman mythology. This particular story contains one of the biggest twists in any Batman storyline, I recommend looking into this one if you are a comic book fan, I just placed it at the top of my Netflix queue, now I have to wait until August 24th for it to ship, I hate it! DC is really cranking out some top notch movies in the direct to video market; Marvel might rule the big screen, but DC is definitely making it’s mark.
That’s all I’ve got for this week, so we’ll move on to this week’s New in Theaters:
Movie: Dinner For Schmucks
Stars: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Stephanie Szostak (Full Cast)
Rated: PG-13
Runtime: 1 hr. 50 min.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 54% – An extraordinarily stupid man possesses the ability to ruin the life of anyone who spends more than a few minutes in his company.
The Plot: Tim (Rudd) is a rising executive who “succeeds” in finding the perfect guest, IRS employee Barry (Carell), for his boss’s monthly event, a so-called “dinner for idiots,” which offers certain advantages to the exec who shows up with the biggest buffoon.
Will I See It?: Yes, but not in theater. I have low expectations for this film, but Carell can be funny when he’s at his stupidest, and I love Rudd in just about everything. Plus, Zach Galifianakis looks hilarious in his role.
The other movies with a wide release this week is Charlie St. Cloud which doesn’t even remotely look interesting to me, and it’s getting terrible reviews on top of that, so I won’t bore you with it’s details; the other is the kids movie Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, yeah, the name pretty much speaks for itself on that one. Instead we’ll move on to our trailer of the week, this week I’ve got Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Based on the comic book series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley, the film is about Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) meeting the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). In order to win Ramona over, Scott learns that he must battle Ramona’s seven evil exes, who are coming to kill him. It looks like a fun movie, check it out!
