  • 2010 NFL Quick Picks: NFC Edition

Welcome back to our pre-season football series, so far we’ve hit on Phil Steele’s Top 25college football teams, I shared some quick fantasy football picks, and last week I compiled all the off-season additions for the AFC and dropped quick thoughts about each team.

This week we’ll cover the NFC, and just like last week I referenced Foxsports.com for all of the free agent signings (accurate as of July 4),Backseatfan.com for all the trades (accurate as of June 19), and fftoolbox.com for the draft picks. I did my best to keep all the meaningful additions up to date as they happened, please forgive me if I missed some for your team. My team ratings after the jump. (more…)

  • Top 10: The Better List Of SNL Dream Hosts

In yesterday’s Saturday Shenanigans I mentioned a list over on Entertainment Weekly about 15 SNL dream hosts. Well, like I said yesterday, their list is… well, it was crap. Half of their list have hosted in the last 3-4 years, a handful are former stars on the show, and the rest are A-level stars that just don’t need to do things like SNL to promote their movies.

Now, I’ll admit, some of the people they suggested that have hosted recently deserve to stay on the list, they always do a great job, so every season would be improved with their inclusion, and I’ve included them on this list, but come on EW, that’s shoddy work, at least make an effort. And did you actually watch the shows last season, they were terrible! Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a terrific actor, I’m really hoping he ends up as the villain in the next Batman movie, but on SNL? He sang in practically every skit (kudos for trying, but every skit?) and just didn’t bring that many laughs. The best parts of his show were from actual cast members.

Rather than nitpicking every selection they made, I’ll summarize… most were not good. So here’s the better list of SNL Dream Hosts, after the jump. (more…)

  • The MMA Minute – Strikeforce 27 Aftermath

Wow, what a week for MMA fights in my household. A bunch of stuff comes up Wednesday night and I’m unable to watch the WEC fight, and then my internet proceeds to go out right as the Strikeforce fight is starting on Saturday night. So again, I’m unable to provide my own takes on the fights, and I really apologize about that. So I’ll again point you over to Sherdog’s outstanding coverage for the play by play, but you can check the results and see how I fared right here.

    Main Card

    • Lightweight bout: United States KJ Noons vs. Brazil Jorge Gurgel – Noons defeated Gurgel by TKO (punches) at 0:19 of round 2.

Another average night as I went 2-2 on the main card, picking Noons over Gurgel and Souza to step into the vacant the championship. Both of the (previously) undefeated fighters fell however to drop me to a .500 record. I promise I won’t miss the UFC fight next weekend!
