  • T.W.I.S.T. for August 29 – September 4

    College Football is underway and the NFL starts this week, so starting next week, we’ll have a football feature on Mondays to cover all the weeks football news. But for this week, we’ll keep it all right here. Here’s this week’s T.W.I.S.T.

    College Football

    • Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, running back for Alabama, had a procedure done on his knee and will be out for the opener. If this becomes some kind of persistent injury, it will be interesting to see how it affects their offense.
    • Texas Head Coach Mack Brown has stated that if the Heisman Trophy Trust takes back Reggie Bush’s 2005 Heisman Trophy, he thinks they should give it to his former QB, Vince Young. Hard to disagree with him on that one.
    • Boise State thought they were getting a great deal leaving the WAC to join the Mountain West earlier this summer, but then Utah left for the Pac-10 and now BYU is leaving… to go independent!
    • The Big 10 conference has released it’s new divisions! Although they are not yet named they will be split up like this: Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Northwestern in one and Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, Illinois, Purdue, and Indiana in the other.
    • QB Jeremiah Masoli has won his appeal and will now be allowed to play this season for Ole Miss after transferring (being kicked out) from Oregon. He won’t start the opener, but he’ll be their starting QB for the remainder of the season.
    • Bodog.com has released the starting odds have been released for the National Championship winners. Here’s some interesting ones: Nebraska 15/1, Iowa 20/1, Texas 14/1, OU 15/2, Bama 4/1, Ohio St 5/1, Boise 8/1. The field 25/1

    NHL

    After denying his 17 year deal, the NHL has approved a new 15 year deal for Ilya Kovalchuk to sign with the New Jersey Devils. 15 freakin’ years… that’s ridiculous.

  • Saturday Shenanigans: Recent Entertainment News

    I’m going to have to apologize about this week’s Saturday Shenanigans (and possibly the upcoming month or so), I volunteer my time as a coach for a flag football team and it just doesn’t leave me a ton of extra time. However, I don’t want these weekly posts to fall by the wayside, so the show must go on!

    With that out of the way, let’s get on to the Shenanigans.

    Google just has to have their hand in everything! The Financial Times says that Google has approached major studios about launching a global pay per view movie service by the end of 2010. If this comes to fruition, analysts speculate that YouTube will become one of the major players in the online video streaming marketplace.

    Entertainment Weekly has a video of an interview on the Emmy red carpet with Tina Fey. In this pre-Emmy clip, she reveals that she’s booked Mad Man Jon Hamm for a return appearance as Drew in her show’s much-anticipated live episode. Jon Hamm has been great in this role, so I’m excited to see how it goes live. Oh, and speaking of the Emmy’s, here’s the list of winners.

  • The MMA Minute – Fighter Profile: Royce Gracie

    The month of September is an unusual one in the world of MMA. We’ve got 2 weekday fights and only a single weekend PPV. To fill this void for The MMA Minute, and to help further educate you in the world of MMA, I’ve decided to bring you fighter profiles. Similar to my articles on the history of MMA, the UFC, and the other main organizations, these will be fancy reproductions of the Wikipedia pages for these fighters, as well as some of my own thoughts, and tidbits from other great websites.

    We really can’t start anywhere else other than Royce Gracie. This is the man that captured all of our imaginations and really helped facilitate the sport MMA in the United States. I’ll cover his career record, bring you some highlights, and do my best to reflect what this fighter represented in the grand scheme of Mixed Martial Arts… after the jump! (more…)

  • Top 10: Ideas For Beginning Bloggers

    I would like to start out today by setting the record straight. I’m not some big deal blogger that churns out real groundbreaking posts that continually make their way around the internet. For those, you’d have to talk to Aaron, he’s the head honcho that’s actually been recognized by one of the big time blogs. If you found this post and you are just starting out as a blogger, or are struggling for ideas, then I’m just like you.

    Today marks the end of the 2nd full month that I’ve had a post every single day. I’ll be the first to admit that not all of those were great posts, but when you are starting out, you can’t expect to strike gold with every post. It’s about getting into the habit of blogging. With experience comes more worthwhile posts, and eventually, it all comes together… I’m still waiting for the whole ‘coming together’ moment with my own writing!

    After the jump I’ll give you my top 10 tips for beginning bloggers, some relate to blog post ideas, some I’m still working on myself, but hopefully you find a point or two to help you get started with your own blog.     I know we just had an Entry Level Geek a week ago, but I was catching up on ComicBookMovie.com, and there’s been all sorts of superhero news coming up lately, so another edition was necessary. Here’s the best of what they’ve recently posted.

    We talked last week about a tweet by Deadpool creator Rob Liefield:

    Warner Bros. just trying to protect their investment. They don’t want Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool AND Green Lantern. Interesting 2 watch

    Well it sounds like whatever hurdles they were encountering have been cleared. He recently posed this to his twitter account:
