  • 230 / 25 = 9.2

I’m at the South Mill and the internet here has been down since yesterday. Basically, I figured out they lost their PPPoE Username and Password for their DSL modem, not a big deal, right? Just call tech support… or not. Apparently they went with a local company called Binary.net, which only offers tech support during normal business hours, so if you have a problem over the weekend you’re out of luck. Lame!

Long story short, I’m currently sharing my 230kbps connection through my cell phone with 25 other people. This is officially slower than dial-up. Now I could be mean and cut them all off, but their little faces lit up like it was freaking Christmas when I started serving up sweet bandwidth.

p.s. Much love to the people at Internet Nebraska, who don’t suck… It’s a pity The Mill isn’t even your client.

  • MacBook Pro + MacBook + Eee PC

For no real reason other than the fact that I could, I took a picture of an Eee PC stacked on top of a MacBook, stacked on top of a MacBook Pro.

  • Hulu Invites

If you haven’t heard of Hulu, chances are you are either on a dial-up connection or living under a rock, in which case, kudos for reading this blog under your rock.

Anyhow, I have 9 invites to the private beta of Hulu, so leave me a comment with your email if you want an invite.

  • Flash coming to the iPhone? Doubtful.

Gear Live is reporting that Flash is on it’s way to the iPhone, now one might be inclined to believe them since they did manage to get their hands on an advance copy of 1.1.3 before it came out, but I still don’t buy it. Here’s why.

Hardware capabilities, let’s take a look at the system requirements on Adobe’s website:
Flash on the iPhone - System Req
Now the iPhone with it’s 624MHz ARM processor may come close, but the iPod touch is certainly out of the question since it’s running a 412MHz ARM processor. Also, I had a Dell Axim x51v a few years back, which had the same clock speed as the iPhone and Flash preformed like crap on that.

If Apple can pull it off, more power to them, but I don’t see it happening prior to the iPhone 2 coming out.

  • OS X 10.5.2

I’m sure by now you’ve heard the wonderful news, 10.5.2 is finally out. Yay! I’ll spare you the boring technical details, but holy crap did 10.5.2 jack my boot time. When I first installed Leopard my boot time went from 33 seconds to 54 seconds, ridiculous! Anyhow, after the 10.5.2 update it was taken my Macbook Pro a full 2 minutes to boot, for shame!

So yeah, I reset my PRAM and emptied out my caches and got things back to around 54 seconds. Just keep that in mind when you install the update. Please note, normally I don’t care about boot times that much, but I’m bored out of my mind right now.

p.s. TUAW is reporting that 10.5.2 makes your WoW run faster
