  • Sweet Jailbreaking Action

I recently acquired an iPod touch, and the first thing I did was jailbreak it and install 3rd party apps, seriously, I didn’t even sync any music to it first.

While cool, the iPod touch is limited greatly out of the box, but add in a quick jailbreak, installer.app, and some iPhone applications like mail and you’ve got yourself a winner. I can do just as much with my iPod touch as I could with my Dell Axim 51v, granted the range of available applications are fairly limited right now, but with the SDK coming in February the best is yet to come. In all seriousness though, an iPod touch of the 8GB variety is $299, verses the $399-499 price tag of a Pocket PC with far less storage space.

Yes, the iPod touch does have a ways to go before it can really be billed as a Pocket PC replacement, and I’m sure Apple would rather roll out an updated Newton to fill that role, but it’s still a very solid mobile platform and incredibly versatile considering its intended use as a music player platform.

So if you can afford an iPod touch and are cool with potentially voiding your warranty, get one, jailbreak it and enjoy!

  • Leopard coming Oct. 26th?

AppleInsider is reporting that Apple may be shipping it’s latest installment of OS X this month on the 26th.

While sources have requested that we not go into detail regarding the specific measures being put into place, they say the announcements are likely to arrive any time between the 22nd and 27th of the month.

Obviously, such a timeframe would coincide with Apple’s self-imposed release schedule for Mac OS X Leopard, which the company — after having delayed the software once — has promised for “October.”

As of Wednesday evening, the source code to Leopard had not yet been frozen and a Gold Master had not yet been declared. However, the operating system in recent weeks has inched closer to this status with the last full builds including only one known issue.

Historically, Apple has tapped the final Friday of the month to roll out its major operating system overhauls. For instance, it launched Mac OS X Tiger on the eve of Friday, April 29, 2005.

Sources have yet to rule out the possibility that Leopard would be accompanied by additional announcements from the Cupertino-based company.

  • iPod games will have to be repurchased

The rivers are running with the tears of fanboys everywhere, as iLounge is reporting that you have to repurchase all those iPod games you’ve been kicking it with on your old iPod if you want to play them on your new iPod… even more tragically only three iPod games have been updated to work with the new line of iPods.

Okay, so how is this different from every time I buy a new cell phone and lose my ringtones and games that I’ve purchased for that? Oh yeah, Apple and the League of Extraordinary Fanboys aren’t involved! Sure it sucks, but it’s not at all unexpected, get over it and move on in life. You can do it, I believe in you.
