  • Hijinks Reviews: Splinter Cell Conviction

Splinter Cell Conviction, a long overdue game, but was it worth the wait? Well, considering the game has been out since April 13, this review is long overdue, so maybe I don’t have any room to talk.

The saga of the release date was one of epic proportions. Pushed back more times than any game I can remember, I hardly believed the release date until I walked into Blockbuster and it was waiting for me on the shelf. But once I got home and began this journey, I was very happy with what I found.

The game touted A New Level of Splinter Cell Action”, a “Blockbuster Experience”, “Jaw Dropping Visuals”, and Xbox LIVE Play plus a Co-op Story Mode to bootit delivered on all accounts. If you’ve ever played a Splinter Cell game, you know what to expect in this one. Stealthy movements, a lot of watching and timing your attacks, gadgets… all your regular super-spy fare. And that’s exactly what it is, only it’s so much more. (more…)

  • Hijinks TV Reviews: Leverage

I debated going with the “What Dave’s Watching” title for this one because this show is in it’s 3 season and I’m just now getting around to it, but Leverage is a pretty solid show. I have this sick habit of having to watch everything in order from the beginning so that I have the whole story and even if I wasn’t there when it all started, I feel like I have been, and I haven’t missed anything along the way. This is where my habit of downloading everything I watch comes in handy, I’m able to do just that.

So anyway, I’m only 6 episodes into the series, but I’m having a lot of fun, and I can see where the relationships will probably develop and turn into a good overall story. The show is delivered much like Burn Notice, where every episode can basically stand on it’s own, but there is an overall story arc that moves the show along from season to season. It’s also got all the fun and flash to go along with the bickering and showmanship that every con job show/movie requires.

We’ll get into the the show a bit more after the jump. (more…)

  • Entry Level Geek: Rumors, Leads, and First Looks

The next few years will bring us the possibility of some of the greatest Superhero movies of all time, or it will all be an enormous letdown. Whether they turn out to be successes or flops, we’ll have to wait and see, but with all of them coming out within 2 years of each other, this leads to many rumors and possibilities floating around. So this is an exciting time for fans of these franchises. Comic-Con just wrapped up, so LOTS of details are being released about all these movies, so we have plenty to cover, let’s not waste anymore time.

We’ve got our first look at Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern! Cinematical says:

One of the more interesting things about Reynolds and this Green Lantern costume is that the entire get-up is being created with computers and placed on Reynolds after the fact. If you’ve seen images of Reynolds on set, the guy is covered in all sorts of dots and whatnot (see an image here) so that they can work their movie magic in post-production and provide the guy with his magic superhero suit. Will this help or hurt the production in the end? That we don’t know … yet.

I just don’t really get into the Green Lantern as a character, seems like one of the dumber superheros to me. The guy just puts on a ring and can become things… I guess it’s not the lamest idea for a super dude, but it doesn’t trip my trigger. I love Ryan Reynolds though, so I’m looking forward to the movie anyway. Some great tidbits about the movie after the jump with possible spoilers, plus info on Superman, Batman, Captain America… and more.

  • T.W.I.S.T. for July 18-24

This week wasn’t  nearly as bad as last week, when we were forced to talk about baseball. Here’s the week in sports tomfoolery:

    College Football

USC got what was coming to them this summer. The school cheated, or at least turned their backs on the cheating at hand, their way to the top, and now they’re paying for it. ESPN says, “USC is cleaning house in its tarnished athletic department, throwing out much of what got the school in severe NCAA trouble. Athletic director Mike Garrett and Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy are the first two items to go.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Bush have his biggest games against nobodies? Meanwhile, Vince Young had his biggest games on the biggest stages, and single handedly took down the big powerful USC team that Bush played for in the National Championship game. Vince Young should’ve won the the Heisman that year, that’s all there is to it.

The best line I’ve heard about this story was on twitter: “You know things are messed up when USC cuts ties with Reggie Bush, but they’re still all good with OJ Simpson” Now that’s a school that has it’s priorities straight!

Now that USC got their punishment, the NCAA is really cracking down on all the big dogs, as there are current investigations in Florida and Alabama, and Nick Saban is pissed about it!

    More after the jump. (more…)

  • Saturday Shenanigans: Recent Entertainment News

A lot of the entertainment related news that has come out recently has been connected with Comic-Con, and I’ve got all of it set to come out in a new edition of the Entry Level Geek on Monday. On top of that, so much of the recent entertainment news has been about this person getting caught with pot, or this person getting thrown into jail. Then there were about 10 different weddings that were supposed to be big deals… just uninteresting unless you’re into the more ‘gossip-y’ side of entertainment news, which I’m not. With that said, here’s what I was able to find for you guys this week. (more…)
