  • The MMA Minute – Strikeforce 27 Aftermath

Wow, what a week for MMA fights in my household. A bunch of stuff comes up Wednesday night and I’m unable to watch the WEC fight, and then my internet proceeds to go out right as the Strikeforce fight is starting on Saturday night. So again, I’m unable to provide my own takes on the fights, and I really apologize about that. So I’ll again point you over to Sherdog’s outstanding coverage for the play by play, but you can check the results and see how I fared right here.

    Main Card

    • Lightweight bout: United States KJ Noons vs. Brazil Jorge Gurgel – Noons defeated Gurgel by TKO (punches) at 0:19 of round 2.

Another average night as I went 2-2 on the main card, picking Noons over Gurgel and Souza to step into the vacant the championship. Both of the (previously) undefeated fighters fell however to drop me to a .500 record. I promise I won’t miss the UFC fight next weekend!

  • Saturday Shenanigans: Recent Entertainment News

You know the drill, I look up the most interesting entertainment related stories of the week and pass them along to you. Before we jump into it though, I’d like you to look a bit to the right here and notice that we’ve got a fancy new logo! At least it’s what we’ll use for the time being. How do you like it?

Well, I hope you just said you liked it, otherwise, I guess you can just ignore that little portion of our weekly Shenanigans. Your entertainment stories are waiting for you after the jump. (more…)

  • The MMA Minute – Strikeforce Houston: King Mo vs. Feijao

Strikeforce 27 is coming up tomorrow, also known as Strikeforce Houston: King Mo vs. Feijao, and it brings us 2 championship fights. See, fledgling organizations need to put on really big shows to be a draw because the mainstream fans just don’t recognize many of their fighters like they do with the UFC. However, Strikeforce is the only real competition to the UFC, so they have to do their best to grab whatever talent happens to be available.

Regardless, anytime you get to see 2 championship fights, it’s a good card. Here’s what we’ve got:

    Main Card

For the picks, I’m going to go with the undefeated Lawal to retain his belt in the Light Heavyweight Championship. The Middleweight Championship is actually a fight for the vacant Middleweight belt, which was vacated by Jake Shields when he left Strikeforce to join the UFC, I’ll take Souza in that fight. As for the last two, they aren’t flashy, but they could be interesting; I’ll take Noons over Gurgel and the former WWE wrestler Lashley over Griggs.

  • The MMA Minute – WEC 50 Aftermath

Hey kids, sorry for the delay on posting these. I haven’t actually been able to watch these fights yet, it’s been a crazy week and I just didn’t have the time. But the show must go on! So, rather than breaking down the fights on my own, I’ll point you to Sherdog’s outstanding coverage, and thank you for stopping by! Here’s the results along with how I fared on the night.

    Main card

    • Bantamweight bout: United States Scott Jorgensen vs. England Brad Pickett – Jorgensen defeated Pickett via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
    • Featherweight bout: United States Cub Swanson vs. United States Chad Mendes – Mendes defeated Swanson via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).
    • Lightweight bout: United States Shane Roller vs. United States Anthony Pettis – Pettis defeated Roller via submission (triangle choke) at 4:51 of round 3.

The Palaszewski/Micklewright fight was added late, I didn’t make a pick for that fight. I went 2-2 on the rest of the card, picking Jorgenson over Pickett and siding with Cruz to retain the championship. For an admitted non-expert on all things WEC… not to shabby!

  • Hijinks Movie Reviews: The Ten

I remember hearing about The Ten when it came out in 2007, and I was interested in it purely based on all the names in it, but I withheld some of my enthusiasm as the entire movie is basically comprised of making fun of the Ten Commandments. I really like Paul Rudd, even in the movies I disliked, I typically enjoyed the scenes he was in. You might say I have a ‘movie crush’ on him, sometimes I’ll watch a movie only because he’s in it. I’m looking at you Wet Hot American Summer, although to be fair, I also watched that one because Elizabeth Banks is in it. I’ve also got a ‘movie crush’ on her and watch some of her movies simply because she was in them. Hmm… ‘movie crushes’, sounds like a possible upcoming post!

Alright, time to find my way back from that rabbit trail… so my wife had a girls night, and I stumbled across Cinematicals Free Flick of the Day and it featured The Ten. So I headed over and found it on Hulu, put it on the big screen (connected to my Media PC custom made by Nelsen Technologies) and found out what this movie was about.
