  • Top 10: The Better List Of SNL Dream Hosts

In yesterday’s Saturday Shenanigans I mentioned a list over on Entertainment Weekly about 15 SNL dream hosts. Well, like I said yesterday, their list is… well, it was crap. Half of their list have hosted in the last 3-4 years, a handful are former stars on the show, and the rest are A-level stars that just don’t need to do things like SNL to promote their movies.

Now, I’ll admit, some of the people they suggested that have hosted recently deserve to stay on the list, they always do a great job, so every season would be improved with their inclusion, and I’ve included them on this list, but come on EW, that’s shoddy work, at least make an effort. And did you actually watch the shows last season, they were terrible! Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a terrific actor, I’m really hoping he ends up as the villain in the next Batman movie, but on SNL? He sang in practically every skit (kudos for trying, but every skit?) and just didn’t bring that many laughs. The best parts of his show were from actual cast members.

Rather than nitpicking every selection they made, I’ll summarize… most were not good. So here’s the better list of SNL Dream Hosts, after the jump. (more…)

You know the drill, I look up the most interesting entertainment related stories of the week and pass them along to you. Before we jump into it though, I’d like you to look a bit to the right here and notice that we’ve got a fancy new logo! At least it’s what we’ll use for the time being. How do you like it?

Well, I hope you just said you liked it, otherwise, I guess you can just ignore that little portion of our weekly Shenanigans. Your entertainment stories are waiting for you after the jump. (more…)

  • Saturday Shenanigans: Recent Entertainment News

Hey there, welcome to another edition of Saturday Shenanigans, let’s get started:

As we all know, all good things must come to an end. While I’m not the worlds biggest Entourage fan, I’ve enjoyed watching the series, but it’s coming to an end after next season, which will be a shortened 8th season. More than likely, we’ll get a feature film a little further down the road.

Some of the hosts of the upcoming season of SNL are being announced, one I’m excited about seeing is Jane Lynch! She’s always fun to watch and she’s set to host the October 9th show.

Blockbuster is doing everything possible to stay semi-relevant. They’ve begun to offer video games in their rent-by-mail service. I never tried GameFly, but I might give this a go. If they had the convenient streaming option that Netflix offers via Xbox 360, I would switch in a heartbeat.

  • Saturday Shenanigans: Recent Entertainment News

It’s that time of the week again, here’s your entertainment news:

The teaser trailer they showed at Comic-Con for The Avengers is now online, click here to check it out. It’s not much, but you’ve gotta start somewhere.

Zachary Levi addressed those rumors we told you about in the last Entry Level Geek, about him auditioning for the new Superman movie. In a recent interview with IGN he said:

“It’s complete fiction. A bummer that it’s complete fiction!” Levi recounted how he himself began hearing about it. “I start getting these text messages from my friends, saying, ‘What is going on? You didn’t tell us any of this!’ And I’m asking, ‘What are you talking about?’ I get this link emailed to me from my publicist. She goes, ‘Just so you know…’ I go check it out, and of course, on the bottom of that article there’s all these comments, and every other article that spawned off of that and all the comments on those sites.”

“I guess one of the things that I fear is that people pigeonhole me in the nerd role,” Levi told me. “Because a lot them say, ‘Well, I can see him as Clark Kent, but I can’t see me as Supes.’” Levi laughed, adding, “I’m an actor! Just give me six months and a gym. Give me something! I guess one of the upsides is that people are going, ‘I can believe him as Wally West. Make him The Flash! I can believe that!’ Which would be amazing.”

  • Hijinks TV Reviews: Louie

Ahh, Louis C.K. I’ve watched a few of his specials, but until recently I really didn’t know too much about him. In the last few weeks I’ve gone back and listened to more of his stuff and I’ve come to this conclusion. This is a guy with a completely twisted viewpoint on the world, totally morose and morbid… and it’s hysterical all at the same time. The only reason he’s not one of my favorite comedians is only because of his prevailing use of profanity. I can get by with a few curse words, but I don’t personally really care for the level he chooses to use on stage. Having said that, he’s a great comedian, and I think he comes across as a guy with a thick outer shell and a very soft inside. He loves his kids, and those are some of my favorite bits that he does, about being a dad. But does his comedy translate to a television series? Find out after the jump. (more…)
