It’s that time of the week again, here’s your entertainment news:
The teaser trailer they showed at Comic-Con for The Avengers is now online, click here to check it out. It’s not much, but you’ve gotta start somewhere.
Zachary Levi addressed those rumors we told you about in the last Entry Level Geek, about him auditioning for the new Superman movie. In a recent interview with IGN he said:
“It’s complete fiction. A bummer that it’s complete fiction!” Levi recounted how he himself began hearing about it. “I start getting these text messages from my friends, saying, ‘What is going on? You didn’t tell us any of this!’ And I’m asking, ‘What are you talking about?’ I get this link emailed to me from my publicist. She goes, ‘Just so you know…’ I go check it out, and of course, on the bottom of that article there’s all these comments, and every other article that spawned off of that and all the comments on those sites.”
“I guess one of the things that I fear is that people pigeonhole me in the nerd role,” Levi told me. “Because a lot them say, ‘Well, I can see him as Clark Kent, but I can’t see me as Supes.’” Levi laughed, adding, “I’m an actor! Just give me six months and a gym. Give me something! I guess one of the upsides is that people are going, ‘I can believe him as Wally West. Make him The Flash! I can believe that!’ Which would be amazing.”
More news along with this week’s New In Theaters after the jump.
Hitfix is reporting that Stephen Sommers will return to direct G.I. Joe 2… do we really need another one of those? The first one wasn’t exactly fantastic. Just another example of how Hollywood has zero new ideas these days.
Wow, 3 nerdtastic stories in a row, this is turning into an Entry Level Geek article. In more general entertainment news, IMDB (which unveiled a new layout for their site by the way) recently linked to a couple of good ‘Before They Were Stars’ articles. One with Tina Fey, the other with Paul Rudd. You really need to go check those out, pretty funny stuff.
Returning to Hitfix, they’ve got a video of Joel McHale teasing the upcoming season of Community, which is one of the best new shows from last season. Seriously, if you haven’t watched it yet, go do so, immediately.
We just reviewed the new TV show Louie the other day, and news just broke that it’s been picked up for a 2nd season, which will air around the same mid-summer timeframe when the first season started.
And now for this week’s New in Theaters, we’ve got quite a few this time:
Movie: The Other Guys
Stars: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg (Full Cast)
Rated: PG-13
Runtime: 1 hr. 47 min.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 54%
The Plot: Two mismatched New York City detectives seize an opportunity to step up like the city’s top cops whom they idolize — only things don’t quite go as planned.
Will I See It?: Yes, but probably not in theater. I’m hoping this movie isn’t another one of those with every funny scene in the trailer, like most of Ferrell’s recent stuff, which has just been downright unwatchable. This one looks like it should be funny, and has some good actors to boot.
Movie: Step Up 3D
Stars: Sharni Vinson, Rick Malambri, Adam G. Sevani (Full Cast)
Rated: PG-13
Runtime: 1 hr. 37 min.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 54%
The Plot: New York’s intense street dancing underground comes alive in eye-popping Digital 3D in the third installment of the STEP UP franchise as the raw, passion-fueled culture goes global. A tight-knit group of street dancers, including Luke (RICK MALAMBRI) and Natalie (SHARNI VINSON), team up with NYU freshman Moose (ADAM SEVANI), and find themselves pitted against the world’s best hip hop dancers in a high-stakes showdown that will change their lives forever.
Will I See It?: Umm, no.
Movie: Middle Men
Stars: Luke Wilson, Giovanni Ribisi, Gabriel Macht (Full Cast)
Rated: R
Runtime: 1 hr. 45 min.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 54%
The Plot: Like BOOGIE NIGHTS for the internet age, MIDDLE MEN is a comic look at the origins of the porn boom on the web. The oh-so-prescient Jack sees dollar signs when he imagines the combination of the newly popular internet and the pornography industry, and he starts a lucrative business. But while Jack just wants to hold on to his normal life, he finds his existence invaded by F.B.I. agents, terrorists, and the Russian mob.
Will I See It?: I’m really not sure, the cast is outstanding, but I don’t usually watch movies based solely on the cast unless it’s a comedy.
Movie: Twelve
Stars: Chace Crawford, Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin (Full Cast)
Rated: R
Runtime: 1 hr. 38 min.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 54%
The Plot: A young drug dealer watches as his high-rolling life is dismantled in the wake of his cousin’s murder, which sees his best friend arrested for the crime.
Will I See It?: No, I highly doubt it.
And here’s our trailer of the week, this week I’ve got Tron: Legacy for you. I dunno, I’m not too excited for this movie… should I be? Here’s a quick summary for you: Sam Flynn, the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant, father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.
