  • Easy Starcraft 2 Strategy: Protoss Rush

Starcraft 2With the Zerg rush so common it’s become a meme, the Protoss don’t get the early game respect they deserve. If you’re new to Starcraft, or its been a few years since you played competitively, these builds will push you through the newbies on Battle.net and onto better hunting grounds. I’ll start out with an old favorite of mine.

    Tri-Gateway Zealot Rush

The goal of this build is to have three warpgates come up simultaneously, with 5-6 zealots already built. Ideally a pylon is built in a corner near your opponent’s base so you can have the other 3 zealots warp in right as the other 5 are running by. By the time they start attacking you should have another 3 en-route, and overwhelm your enemy with sheer numbers. This is a quick newbie killer, and at higher levels its an effective way to counter opponents who are rushing to 2nd and 3rd tier units. (more…)

I purchased Helsing’s Fire on the recommendation of my friend, Bob Sacamano (I told you about him in my last iPod game review). So we both downloaded it and gave it a whirl, and both came away with the same reaction, we’ll get into it a bit after the jump. (more…)

  • Hijinks Reviews: Splinter Cell Conviction

Splinter Cell Conviction, a long overdue game, but was it worth the wait? Well, considering the game has been out since April 13, this review is long overdue, so maybe I don’t have any room to talk.

The saga of the release date was one of epic proportions. Pushed back more times than any game I can remember, I hardly believed the release date until I walked into Blockbuster and it was waiting for me on the shelf. But once I got home and began this journey, I was very happy with what I found.

The game touted A New Level of Splinter Cell Action”, a “Blockbuster Experience”, “Jaw Dropping Visuals”, and Xbox LIVE Play plus a Co-op Story Mode to bootit delivered on all accounts. If you’ve ever played a Splinter Cell game, you know what to expect in this one. Stealthy movements, a lot of watching and timing your attacks, gadgets… all your regular super-spy fare. And that’s exactly what it is, only it’s so much more. (more…)

Hijinks Reviews: Space Station: Frontier HD

    Version Reviewed: 1.1.0

Space Station: Frontier HD is the love child of a tower defense game and a real time strategy game. Understandably, SS:FHD grew up with some issues. It had upgradable towers, but not the selection of a true tower defense game. It had resource management and RTS-like mission objectives, but lacked that second layer of micromanagment that true strategy games have.  So, SS:FHD grew up with something missing, something it couldn’t put its finger on. When it made the jump to the iPad there was hope SS:FHD would mature a little bit; perhaps grow out of all the genre confusion. Unfortunately, all it did was get the standard iPad “graphical enlargement” surgery. While increasing SS:FHD’s confidence, it did nothing to improve his game.
