Could an unlocked iPod touch fulfill my portable gaming habit?

I purchased a Nintendo DS about 6 months ago (when I realized I could play MarioKart whenever my heart desired). I’ve played some of the “best games”–according to the sales charts–the system has to offer.

A couple weeks ago my good friend Aaron bought an iPod touch. A week later he had Super Mario 3 running on it. Am I tempted? You betcha.

Let’s break this down a little bit.

Nintendo DS

Pros: Solid library of quality games. N64 caliber graphics that fits in your pocket. Continual supply of new games into the foreseeable future. Cheap at $120.

Cons: As a game system: none. Contrasted to the iPod touch though, it lacks functionality, it’s bulky, nos sweet music player, other apps.

iPod Touch

Pros: Shiny. Sleek. Multi-functional (after Jailbreak). 810 free games with the NES emulator. Plays music (yay!).

Cons: Expensive ($299). Development of quality games specific to the system non-existent. Requires hacking the iPod to gain the majority of the functionality.

Seems kinda obvious doesn’t it? I need to decide if 200 bucks is worth a music player and cool apps.
