The month of June has a couple movies that pique my interest a bit more than May could offer. For my thoughts on May’s movie releases, see my first post.
June starts out with a couple of very iffy movies. Kung Fu Panda and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. Kung Fu Panda (June 6th) is Dreamworks’ latest offering and features the vocal talents of Jack Black and a slew of others. I’m sure it will end up being a great family movie, but I’ll save my money and get it with my Movie Pass when it comes out for rent. You Don’t Mess with the Zohan (also June 6th) is, from what I can tell, probably the worst name for a movie in the history of movie names. Zohan is played by Adam Sandler and apparently is supposed to be a Mossad agent that fakes his death so he can re-emerge in New York City as a hair stylist. Yeah… sounds like another renter… if that…
The rest of the summer gets better though, so follow me and you can see what I have to say about them after the jump.
June 13th brings us another two big movies. The Happening which HAS to be M. Night Shamalamadingdong’s last shot to really make it in Hollywood. We get it, you make movies that have twists in them. The other movie on the 13th is The Incredible Hulk. Wait a minute, they just made a Hulk movie a few years ago… yes they did, but that one sucked out loud. This is a group of people that acknowledged that that movie was terrible and wanted to try to give the Hulk a fighting chance. The Hulk is right up there with Spiderman as far as notoriety goes in the Marvel Universe, so the least he deserves is a second chance. I like Edward Norton and he’s taking on the role of Bruce Banner this time around. I might end up seeing this one in theaters, I really hope I don’t end up being disappointed.
Get Smart is the next big release and it comes to us June 20th. Steve Carell plays dumb about as well as anyone in Hollywood these days (notice I said dumb, not stupid. There are alot of really stupid people in Hollywood, and from the looks of things, they don’t do much acting when portraying their characters.) I love Steve Carell in The Office and most of his smaller roles in the past, but he seems to be an actor that needs some other big names to take some of the limelight. The Office is so good because of Jim, Dwight, Pam, and the rest of that amazing cast. I think the trailer is pretty good, so I’m hoping to get a good laugh from this one, but we’ll see.
June goes out with a bang with 2 more big releases on the 27th. Wall-E is the new Pixar movie, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s more along the lines of the Toy Storys, Monsters Inc., or Bugs Life and less like Cars. Thost first 3 I listed are tremendous kids movies, but mix in a ton of great humor that is directed entirely at the adults. Cars was nothing like that. It had a couple good laughs, but was definitely just a kids movie. After Cars, I think this one is just a renter for me.
The other big release for the 27th is an action movie called Wanted. Angelina Jolie stars in this one, and to be honest with you, it looks like it’s just a movie about Mrs. Smith. Whatever the case, she usually make pretty darn good action movies, and I’ll probably end up seeing this one in theater. If nothing else, it should be a fun movie worth seeing on the big screen.
That brings us to the end of June, July is completely loaded with movies I’m looking forward to, so be sure to check back tomorrow.
