How’s that for a title, eh?! Before I get into all of my movie reviewing madness, I want to let you know that I will be including a link to the Apple Trailers site for all of the reviewed movies at the end of the article. Everyone else here seems to include something related to Apple in everything they post, I figured I should too. Now that I’ve got that covered, you may now continue.
It’s approaching the summer movie “season” and I know that I’ve got a couple I’m looking forward to. On the other hand, there are a few that I couldn’t care less about. The Dark Knight (release date July 18th) is without a doubt the movie that I’m most excited about. I always grew up a fan of Batman, but I grew up watching the 1960’s version, complete with the POWs, BIFFs, and WHAMM-Os (you knew I was going to tie in that ludicrous title some how!) and a cheese factor that oozed out of nearly ever line of dialogue and ever scene.
I never really got into the Batman movies that were released mostly throughout the 90’s and because of that, I never even saw Batman Begins until it was at the local dollar theater; in spite of the fact that everyone I knew that had seen it told me it was very good. When I finally was able to see it for myself, I renewed my interest in the Batman franchise and was excited to see where Christopher Nolan took it. He maintains the dark side that made the first one so appealing, and this time the battle includes Batman’s most famous nemesis, the Joker.
Notice I said includes not featuring. Regardless, I hope to be in line on opening night. You’ll find some of my thoughts about May’s releases after the jump.
As is usually the case, there are a handful of the superhero movies this summer. The first being Iron Man, which kicks off the slate of summer movies on May 2nd. While I don’t know too much about Iron Man and his story, this looks like a very well made movie, with a star studded cast. I hope it lives up to the hype!
*Edit* This is a great video, be sure to head over and check it out!
The next few weeks offer some movies that I’m sure will do quite well, but I’m not as excited about them as others. Speed Racer (May 9th) and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (May 16th). Speed Racer, I dunno, I was never into the idea from the moment I heard about it a few years ago. Narnia on the other hand, I liked the first one, but I think I’ll eternally be jaded by the Lord Of The Rings series. LOTR was done SO well that Narnia will just have a very hard time living up to it. Although I’m sure Price Caspian will be a perfectly good movie in it’s own right.
May 22 brings us another highly anticipated sequel, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Before I continue I have a confession to make… alright two. First, I never really have seen much of the Indiana Jones trilogy. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them all, but it was all in bits and pieces. I hope to have time to sit down and watch all 3 of them before this is released, because I’d like to see it in theater, and be caught up on the back-story. Second, I like Shia LaBeouf, and have ever since he was a squeaky voiced little kid on Even Stevens. I thought he did a really good job in Transformers, and has actually done some other work that shows he’s a pretty good actor, I look forward to watching him as his career matures.
I remember laughing when I first heard they were making another Indiana Jones, because I heard rumblings of it right around the time Stallone started talking about another Rocky and Rambo, both of which seemed like a terrible idea (and if Rambo is as bad as the new Rocky was, I have absolutely NO interest in it. I spent more time laughing at how bad the dialogue was then I did watching the movie.) Suffice it to say that I hope Indiana Jones is better than Rocky Balboa was.
The month of May concludes with the Sex and the City movie. I never watched the series so I don’t really care about the movie. Enough said.
I’ll have my thoughts on June’s slate of movies tomorrow. Hasta Mañana!
