2008 Summer Movie Releases (POWs, BIFFs, and WHAMM-Os not included) Part 4

Alright, August is the part of the year that doesn’t REALLY count as summer anymore, so rather than just previewing the month of August, I thought I’d use this chance to simply list the movies I’m looking forward to for the remainder of the year.

Again, be sure to see the other previews here, here, and here; and then join me after the jump! Most of these movies have a recurring theme, I’m interested in small parts of the movie, but will go into it with low expectations. I don’t know that any of these would live up to very high expectations, and I hate feeling like I wasted the $20 when I go to the theater.

First on the list, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. I liked the other Mummy movies, and I love Brendan Fraser in almost everything he’s been in. There’s been some changing of the cast, but as long as they made better decisions than the one to put the Rock’s head on the Scorpion King in Mummy 2, everything should be fine. Another August release is Tropic Thunder. If you’ve seen the Three Amigos, then you’ve already seen this movie. However, after seeing the promo pictures of Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. (yes, that IS Downey Jr, the same guy that plays Iron Man), I think I’ll have to check it out.

Some others that will trickle into the theaters are Punisher: War Zone, Eagle Eye , Quantum of Solace, Four Christmases, Max Payne. Some quick thoughts on those:

Punisher: War Zone – this is another re-do, like with the Hulk. Some people decided the last one wasn’t good enough, and wanted to do a better job representing this character. I think I read that this one will be darker, although, it will be tough to beat slashing a guy in the top of the head with the blade from a paper cutter. I’m interested in how they do this one.

Eagle Eye – I don’t know TOO much about it, but like I said, I kinda like watching Shia LaBeouf, and he stars in this one.

Quantum of Solace – Better known as the next James Bond movie. Why they picked such a weird title, I don’t know, but I’m not a big Bond fan, and I absolutely loved the last one. Like Batman, this is a franchise that needed a new direction, and I love the way they went.

Four Christmases – I like how Vince Vaughn makes it look so easy to work with people on screen. Sometimes his chemistry appears legit. But all I heard is how much he and co-star Reese Witherspoon fought and yelled and hated each other on set. Sounds fun! Jon Favreau also is in this one, and he and Vaughn are terrific on screen.

Max Payne – Usually, they ruin video game movies, so I expect very little out of this. But the Max Payne story was pretty good, and they got Mark Wahlberg to star, so I’ll give it a shot.

That’s about it. I’m sure as it gets closer to some of the movies scheduled for 2008, I’ll find out more about them and have a few more grab my attention, but this is where it stands for now. What about you? Are there any movies that you are looking forward to this year?
