Apple may have added multitasking into iOS 4, but it isn’t true multitasking. What if you want something a little more versatile? Or hey, maybe like me, you’re running older hardware which according to Apple “doesn’t support multitasking”, or even an iPad which doesn’t have iOS 4 yet. At any rate, I would highly recommend you check out Backgrounder.
Here’s how to install and configure Backgrounder.
Step 1: Open Cydia and tap search
, enter Backgrounder
in the search box.
Step 2: Select the appropriate version of Backgrounder from the search results. Then tap Install
, then Confirm
.
Step 3: After the installation finishes, tap Restart Springboard
.
Now when you’re in an application that you’d like to run in the background, like Pandora, or Twitter for iPhone, just double tap the home button. You should see a popup that says “Backgrounding Enabled”, and naturally just double tap the home button again (from within the same app) to disable backgrounding.
If you’d like to change the shortcut for enabling backgrounding, just launch Backgrounder and tap Control (via Activator)
, then tap the option you’d like to use. Make sure and remove the check mark from next to the Double Press
option, otherwise it will still be active. After that just tap Back
or close the application.
