  • Hijinks Movie Reviews: The Expendables

My wife received 2 pairs of free movie passes as a gift from her work awhile back, and I told him immediately after hearing about them that one of the movies we had to go watch was The Expendables. I was really excited about this movie, I mean, look at that list of names on the poster… it had to be awesome, right?

Well, as it ended up, we didn’t use the tickets for this movie, I ended up going on a guy’s night out with my buddy Bob Sacamano because The Expendables was one of the $5 movies for the week. We got to the theater, found the seats closest to the middle of the theater, not too close, and with the requisite one seat buffer between us, we sat in expectation of all the awesomely mind blowing action we were about to see. Were our minds blown? You’ll have to stick with me through the break to find out. (more…)

  • Did MySpace hack Facebook, or did I go crazy for five minutes?

And for the “what-the-crap” moment of the evening, we bring you this.

    Seriously people. What. The. CRAP?

(Please note, it was back to normal less then five minutes later.)

  • DTV Shredder – Now the Uno has a little brother!

Saw this and knew I had to post about it… who doesn’t like something with tracks?  The DTV (Dual Tracked Vehicle) Shredder is developed by BPG Werks out of Canada, and is the brainchild of Benjamin Gulak, who also brought us the Uno… a self-balancing uni-motorcycle.

This time, he’s developed a cross between a scooter, a skateboard, a snowboard and a tank.  From the videos, it looks to be pretty off-road capable, and with a top speed of 30 mph, it’s no slouch.

They’re also pitching it to the Military, who I think could definitely put it to good use.

On their website, you can put down a fully refundable $250 to be put on a waiting list.  I couldn’t find any pricing figures, but I wouldn’t hold your breath, it’ll probably be a healthy premium.  But why not?  It’s not like you could go to Wal Mart and pick one up…

  • Hijinks Reviews: DoodleGeddon

    Publisher: Three Sprockets, Ltd.
    Platform: iPad
    Cost: $1.99 [iTunes Link]
    Release date: September 02, 2010
    Version Reviewed: 1.0

When the iPhone first launched, a little company called Lima Sky created a monster with Doodle Jump, since then numerous companies have tried to cash in on the “Doodle craze”, very few of them offering much in the way of compelling game play when compared to Doodle Jump. Even fewer mimicking the financial success of Lima Sky.

    Enter DoodleGeddon.

DoodleGeddon boasts that it’s a “…fast paced missile command style game…”. But is it? Well, sort of. It certainly is a missile command style game, that much is obvious. But the gameplay itself is horrendously slow until about wave 12, then things get a little crazy. While I can see why they choose to ease people into the game, it’d be nice if they offered different levels of difficulty.

  • The MMA Minute – Fighter Profile: Dan Severn

Alright, let’s be upfront about this. That’s a picture of a very big man in very small underwear… and I apologize about that. But Dan Severn is another very big name in the history of MMA, and he needs to be discussed. And the man wore short shorts in the ring, so there aren’t many pictures of him. So, we’ll tactfully move on from the discussion about short shorts and talk about the career of the great Dan Severn.

Severn was a very ‘to the point’ type of fighter. He wasn’t flashy, he didn’t do a ton of talking, he just got into the ring and used his world class wrestling skills to dominate almost all of the top fighters in his era. Even though he was a top fighter, since he was so business-like and not flashy, there isn’t much history to share like our previous two fighters. Still, he made a huge mark on the world of MMA, being  the first to really effectively utilize his wrestling skills as a primary skill set in the ring. He still competes in some lower class organizations and is one of only a few professional fighters to eclipse the 100 career fight mark, currently holding 94 wins. (more…)
