T.W.I.S.T. for July 4-10

No extra fluff this week, no terrible jokes, just the big sports stories of the week. Outside of NBA free agency and the World Cup there’s just not much going on, unless you like baseball, in which case I pity your soul. Here we go:

The free agency period is now in full swing as most of the big names have found their homes. Dirk Nowitzki stayed in DallasJoe Johnson stayed in Atlanta, and Paul Pierce stayed in Boston, but Amare followed his old coach to the New York Knicks and Carlos Boozer joined the young guns in Chicago. Miami ended up reeling in all the big fish in free agency grabbing Lebron James, Chris Bosh and keeping Dwayne Wade. Now the interesting thing is finding out how the Heat can fit more players under their salary cap to fill out their roster.

JaMarcus Russell  has nearly solidified his position as the biggest NFL draft bust of all time. Think about how epic that would be, he could be worse than Ryan Leaf. Russell was charged with possession of a controlled substance — codeine syrup — after being arrested. Earlier this off-season the Raiders finally cut their losses and released Russell, who has garnered little to no interest since then.

World Cup

Our final match-up is set! The Netherlands advanced to meet Spain in to todays finale. Uruguay played in the 3rd place game against the uber-powerful Germans yesterday, losing 3-2. Should make for an interesting finale.

Nebraska Football

  • Just last week I going on about how many recruits Nebraska already has in this years class. Now they’ve gone out and grabbed a 2012 recruit. Michael Rose, from KC Rockhurst, becomes the first player known to pledge to Nebraska’s class of 2012, and seems to have a firm head on his shoulders for a 16 year old. Looking forward to seeing who else Nebraska can get as they continue to climb under Coach Bo Pelini.
  • Do you think Husker fans want to beat Texas in the worst way possible this year? I think you’re 100% right. Here’s a website 100% devoted to Nebraska taking down the big, bad, Horns.
