My Macbook that is.
Yep, it finally came. After three days staring at the Fedex tracking page, hoping that it just might come a day early, I spent the day of it’s arrival staring hopefully down the lane waiting for that big van of Macbook goodness to drive up. I found out the hard way that Fedex drivers usually leave the rural neighborhoods last on their schedule. But arrive it did, in all it’s glossy white, shiny glory.
My first impressions were positive. Having never owned a Mac before, I was amazed when the OS was loaded within 5 seconds of hitting the power button. I was also impressed how intuitive everything was. After using nothing but Windows computers, I was able to quickly navigate with relatively few “what the crap?” moments.
I can’t say much about the bundled programs, purely because I haven’t used nearly any of them. I used Safari for about a minute, and that was to download Firefox. Photobooth is always good for a few laughs. I don’t count iTunes because I’ve been using that for years. Beyond that, I have yet to experience the wonders iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband, or any of the countless programs Aaron tells me I have but I can’t see. Suffice to say, I should be able to keep myself entertained for quite a while.
I don’t have many complaints at this point. The CD drive has a tendency to sound like an airplane taking off, and at one point emitted a loud clicking sound. A little research suggested that the drive hadn’t loaded the CD properly and it wasn’t spinning on a level plane. That problem is hardly Mac specific however, and I’m pretty sure I can live with it.
On the whole, I’m very pleased with my purchase. I was a little leery of buying it used (it was a month old when I got it), but I’m hoping Apple’s warranty will come through if I have issues down the road. Now to decide if I want to buy Applecare…
