  • Red Light in Macbook Pro Headphone Jack

Last night I went to plugin my headphones and listen to some music and lo and behold my headphones wouldn’t fit entirely in the jack, strange… I removed my headphones and went to take a closer look.

Apparently when your headphone jack is obstructed, in my case by a piece of plastic, there’s a tiny red light that lights up at the bottom of the jack. No, it’s not Skynet trying to take control of your computer.

In order to fix this, just take a toothpick or a paperclip and insert it into the headphone jack to clear whatever is blocking it.

  • Apple Mail-In Repair

I mailed my iPhone in for repair a couple weeks ago and the response time was fantastic, four days from start to finish and I had my phone back. On March 28th, I sent my Macbook Pro in for repairs. I’d taken it to the Apple Store in Omaha and they said they couldn’t replace my screen in store because they didn’t have the part on hand, and it would take about three weeks if they ordered the part, but if I sent it in things would go much faster as the repair depot had the part on hand.

So, on their advice I sent my computer in, I was assured that I would have it back by next Friday at the latest (4/4/08). Monday (3/31/08) the status was listed as “Repair in progress” for a grand total of about three hours, after which it was listed as “On hold – Part on order”… Now wait a minute, I thought the whole idea for sending it in was that they had the part on hand! Oh well, as long as I get my computer back by Friday.

Well, as of the time I finished writing this (10am on 4/3/08) the status has not changed. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, but if the repair isn’t finished today I highly doubt my computer will arrive by Friday as promised.
