Ok, I’ll admit, I don’t know ANYTHING about this movie. This picture of Rainn Wilson rocking out is the first I’ve seen or heard of it. But apparently it’s called The Rocker and a new trailer is up over at Yahoo. I just watched the trailer… and this movie has officially been added to my list of movies I’d like to see this summer.
I am Iron Man. Those could be the lyrics of a certain Black Sabbath song, or maybe a little quip from Tony Stark. Or maybe both. You’ll have to go see the movie to find out for sure I guess.
And that’s exactly what I did last night. In a bit of a hasty decision, I ended up going to see the movie and honestly, had mixed expectations. It looked like it could be good, but I wasn’t expecting TOO much (if you’ve ever heard me talk about the upcoming Dark Knight movie, you know I’ll probably be disappointed by the movie because the expectations are simply through the roof). Comic Book movies are usually good to go into with lower expectations, because as good as some of them have been, some have been downright painful.
But which did Iron Man end up being? Find out after the jump
Alright, August is the part of the year that doesn’t REALLY count as summer anymore, so rather than just previewing the month of August, I thought I’d use this chance to simply list the movies I’m looking forward to for the remainder of the year.
Again, be sure to see the other previews here, here, and here; and then join me after the jump!
After posting the links to all those trailers, it’s blatantly obvious that Warner Bros. and Universal don’t spend NEARLY the time marketing their movies that everyone else does. Either that or they just suck at it, or maybe they don’t care. Whatever the case, be sure to go check out my reviews on the May and June releases, and then come back and we’ll jump into July.
The month of June has a couple movies that pique my interest a bit more than May could offer. For my thoughts on May’s movie releases, see my first post.
June starts out with a couple of very iffy movies. Kung Fu Panda and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. Kung Fu Panda (June 6th) is Dreamworks’ latest offering and features the vocal talents of Jack Black and a slew of others. I’m sure it will end up being a great family movie, but I’ll save my money and get it with my Movie Pass when it comes out for rent. You Don’t Mess with the Zohan (also June 6th) is, from what I can tell, probably the worst name for a movie in the history of movie names. Zohan is played by Adam Sandler and apparently is supposed to be a Mossad agent that fakes his death so he can re-emerge in New York City as a hair stylist. Yeah… sounds like another renter… if that…
The rest of the summer gets better though, so follow me and you can see what I have to say about them after the jump.
How’s that for a title, eh?! Before I get into all of my movie reviewing madness, I want to let you know that I will be including a link to the Apple Trailers site for all of the reviewed movies at the end of the article. Everyone else here seems to include something related to Apple in everything they post, I figured I should too. Now that I’ve got that covered, you may now continue.
It’s approaching the summer movie “season” and I know that I’ve got a couple I’m looking forward to. On the other hand, there are a few that I couldn’t care less about. The Dark Knight (release date July 18th) is without a doubt the movie that I’m most excited about. I always grew up a fan of Batman, but I grew up watching the 1960’s version, complete with the POWs, BIFFs, and WHAMM-Os (you knew I was going to tie in that ludicrous title some how!) and a cheese factor that oozed out of nearly ever line of dialogue and ever scene.
I never really got into the Batman movies that were released mostly throughout the 90’s and because of that, I never even saw Batman Begins until it was at the local dollar theater; in spite of the fact that everyone I knew that had seen it told me it was very good. When I finally was able to see it for myself, I renewed my interest in the Batman franchise and was excited to see where Christopher Nolan took it. He maintains the dark side that made the first one so appealing, and this time the battle includes Batman’s most famous nemesis, the Joker.
Notice I said includes not featuring. Regardless, I hope to be in line on opening night. You’ll find some of my thoughts about May’s releases after the jump.
Hulu is set to go public tomorrow, during the course of the private beta they’ve added quite a bit of content from various networks and content partners… here’s the full list their content partners.
That’s pretty much all I was able to say about the Dark Knight trailer. I’m sure, unless you live under a rock, that you’ve seen this already. But if not, I felt, being the entertainment editor around these parts, it was my duty. So please, take the time to click the following link and watch the trailer for what is, by far, the movie I’m most looking forward to in 2008.
It’s fast approaching the time of year when lists really start going into full swing. This is one of the few lists that actually caught my eye. A quick bit of background for you:
Earlier this year the American Film Institute re-voted their top 100 American movies of all time. The first list, compiled in 1998 sparked a great discussion, several TV specials and got people talking about some old classics they hadn’t seen in a while. This year that list was updated to see how the films of the last 10 years would be ranked and to see how our tastes in culture had changed.
Apparently enough fanboys got upset by these rankings, or what was left out of them perhaps, that some of them made a list of what SHOULD have been the top 100. A quick glimpse at the top 10 after the jump:
I figured I’d take a moment to post a blurb about some the happenings of the week.
‘Idol’ Chatter
Apparently the MTV Video Music Awards took place last Sunday. Because I’m not comatose, I know that Britney Spears performed at these awards and had the ’show of a lifetime’… but in the bad way. I guess those crazy judges over on American Idol feel that they can help out this fallen star and get her career back on track. Simon Cowell was quoted as saying “We have decided we can bring Britney back. We are serious. We plan to buy her underpants, get her bigger shorts to perform in and get her away from her stupid friends.” Maybe I’m the only one that doesn’t care about Britney or any of those other crazy people on American Idol, but would somebody please tell Simon Cowell to buy shirts that fit him before he ever buys underwear or any other type of clothing for someone else.
