  • Passive Income – April 2008

Tragically when my bank cut my interest rate again last month, it was not an April Fools joke, now the rate is 3.01%… for shame.

    • Interest: $36.22
    • Dividends: $10.04
    • Credit Card Rewards: $18.37
    • AdSense: $11.78
    • Text Ads: $25.00
    • Misc website income: $15
    • Surveys: $12.00

That’s a total of $128.41, so I made just slightly over the $100 a month target.

  • Hijinks Reviews: MPG

Pros: Practical application with an easy to use interface.

Cons: Lacking in the features department right now. We’re looking forward to 1.1.

    Developer: Catamount Software (www.catamount.com)

    Version Reviewed: 1.0.3

    Platform: iPhone and iPod Touch

If you have a drivers license, you’re probably painfully aware of the price you pay every time you fill up your tank. Catamount Software can’t solve the world’s energy crisis, but they at least offer a way to keep track of it all. MPG is an app that allows you to keep track of your fuel and service expense for multiple vehicles. True to its name it keeps track of your miles per gallon and updates the number every time you fill up. More after the jump. (more…)

  • Mint.app

Mint.com is a great financial tool, but wouldn’t it be better if it more like a desktop app? Well, now it sort of is… My implementation is very basic, just a WebKit application layer, but it allows you to run Mint as a “standalone” application on your computer.

Obviously it only works on OS X, and requires Fluid to be installed, but both Fluid and Mint.app are included in the installation package.
    Mint.app

Of course, an internet connection is still required.
    Mint.app - Login

Nothing fancy, but you may find it useful.

I’ve only tested it on my machine, so I’m looking for few other mac users to test the software for me. It doesn’t require that you have a Mint account to run it, but I highly suggest signing up for one! Send me an email (aaron [at] hijinksinc [dot] com) if you’re interested in taking it for a spin.

Once testing concludes, I’ll release it via the Hijinks Inc. Repo.
