  • 2010 Fantasy Football Season Preview

I love me some fantasy football. Although, to be honest, I really don’t participate in any re-draft leagues anymore, other than the Co-Ed league I’m in with my wife and a few of our friends. Oh, in case you aren’t familiar with the term ‘re-draft’, that’s just at league that holds a full draft every year, you don’t keep any players. I really focus on dynasty leagues, where you keep most or all of your team from season to season, and then hold a yearly rookie draft or a draft to re-fill your team. And even so, I used to be in almost 10 leagues, but life has caught up to me and I’m down to 2 or 3 leagues at the most.

However, I still spend most of my Sundays with my eye on the ticker, and ample time researching the players for my league drafts. I’m not going to get particularly in depth with these rankings or picks, but I’d be more than happy to answer any questions you might have, either in the comments (remember, you can get yourself entered into our contest to win an iTunes gift card!) or via twitter. With that in mind, after the jump I’ll present you a quick overview of my position rankings… focusing more on the long term value of players over their immediate production this season. (more…)

  • CNC Art

The term CNC stands for Computer Numerically Controlled, and is used to describe machining equipment that is controlled with computers.  These machines, commonly milling machines, are used to machine parts out of most any kind of material, such as aluminum, steel, plastic, copper, stainless, etc.  This is how we end up with the parts that make up our cars, lawn mowers, hair dryers and coffee makers.

However, these machines are also used by some to make art, such is the case of GarE Maxton of Carson City, Nevada, who designs and machines 3D puzzles.

His latest sculpture he calls ‘The Intimidator’.  Made up of 125 pieces, all machined to fit together perfectly, the sculpture takes on the form as seen on the left.  Once apart, some of the pieces can be put together again to form a fully functional .45 Cal muzzle loading pistol, as seen below.  Take a few minutes and look through the gallery on his website, as well as the video of him dismantling, assembling the gun and firing it. His intricate sculptures are nothing short of extraordinary.

  • T.W.I.S.T. for Aug1-7

I’ve had a crazy week this week, so I didn’t have time to bring you links for most of these stories, and I apologize for that. But the last thing I wanted to do was miss a week, so here’s your biggest sports stories of the week, from my point of view.

News broke this week about Brett Favre contacting his coaches and teammates via text saying that he was calling it quits. Then Brett Favre said he was ‘undecided, but would probably play as long as his ankle holds up’ the next day. Seriously, who really gives a crap anymore.  And honestly, the Vikings passed on some quality rookie QBs in the draft just to make sure they didn’t upset the almighty Favre, he then turns around and ‘retires’ after the calendar has already turned to August? I’m so sick of this guy. Let’s just wait until the Vikings line up on offense in the first game of the year and see if Favre is under center. Quit giving this diva the attention he so desperately seems to crave.

The rest after the break. (more…)
