In honor of the great Nathan Fillion (@NathanFillion on Twitter) and his spearheading of the new “it” phrase ‘double rainbow‘, I will bring you the entertainment news this week with a double rainbow rating:
Totally not double rainbow: After last weeks news that Ed Norton officially would not be back in the role of Bruce Banner and turning into the Hulk, we have a new possibility to fill Banner’s shoes: Joaquin Phoenix. Please, are you serious? If this is true, I’m going to be awfully upset. Marvel said they didn’t want to pay Norton and that he was to difficult to deal with. So your solution is go get another A-lister? One who grew a big homeless guy beard, ‘retired’ and turned himself into a rapper for a ‘documentary’? Yeah, sounds like the perfect example of reasonable and accountable.
Double rainbow across the sky, all the way: Another rumor about Mark Ruffalo replacing Norton seems a bit more on the level. Apparently they are in advanced stages of negotiations, it looks like this is probably going to happen.
So double rainbow it’s almost a triple rainbow: I wonder if Betty White had any idea how big of a year she was about to have when she was filming that Snickers commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. She’s hosted one of the best Saturday Night Lives in years, she’s pretty much the only funny part of the Hot in Cleveland that airs on TV Land, and now she’s set to show up in the season premier of Community.
A full on double rainbow, what does it mean?: GeekTyrant.com has the first images from the upcoming movie Paul. Here’s the synopsis:
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) reunite for the comedy adventure Paul as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever.
For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. For reasons unknown, the space-traveling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town—a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Collings (Frost).
Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship. And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes.
I love Simon Pegg, and he’s always at the top of his game when he bring Nick Frost along for the ride. I think I’d watch the 2 of them reading the Sunday paper and have a really good laugh or two.
Definite possibilities of rainbow activity: And now for this week’s New in Theaters:
Movie: Inception
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page (Full Cast)
Rated: PG-13
Runtime: 2 hr. 28 min.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 100% – In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a single idea within one’s mind can be the most dangerous weapon or the most valuable asset.
The Plot: Dom Cobb (DiCaprio) is a thief who specializes in the art of extraction, the stealing of secrets from a target’s subconscious. Though his profession cost him everything he has ever loved and has turned him into a fugitive, an offer for a final job — one that requires him to plant an idea instead of pilfering it — could be his chance at redemption.
Will I See It?: Yes, I don’t know much about this movie other than what you’ve read here, but I’ve nothing but unabashed enthusiasm for this movie, and it’s another Christopher Nolan movie, who has turned just about everything he touched into gold.
Movie: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Stars: Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Monica Bellucci (Full Cast)
Rated: PG
Runtime: 1 hr. 51 min.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 14% – As he prepares for a battle against the forces of darkness in modern-day Manhattan, Dave finds it is going to take all of the courage he can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
The Plot: Master sorcerer Balthazar Blake (Cage) recruits a seemingly everyday guy (Baruchel) in his mission to defend New York City from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Molina).
Will I See It?: No, I saw a trailer for this movie and was almost interested, and then they introduced Cage as the Sorcerer. This movie makes me wish I had a 3rd hand so I could give it 3 thumbs down.
That’s about all we’ve got for this week, the movie trailer I’ll leave you with a movie that looks so dumb it could actually end up being pretty funny: Dinner For Schmucks I admit, I’m really only interested in this movie because of Zach Galifianakis, Paul Rudd is also great acting with anybody, he’s full on double rainbow.
And in case you’d like some explanation for all this double rainbow madness, you can find out by watching this YouTube video. If you still want more double rainbow, check out this auto-tune song, also on YouTube. Now good luck getting that out of your head, double rainbow, all the way.
